Gambhir Steps Down As Delhi Daredevils Captain

Image
A fter five losses out of six matches Delhi played so far, disappointed Gautam Gambhir steps down as captain. Gambhir was bought by Daredevils in January during IPL auction after he was released by Kolkata Knight Riders last year.    Gambhir, who returned to his old franchisee promised the team to win the trophy and retire thereafter. The left-handed big-match star won two IPL titles for KKR as captain.    In a press conference this afternoon he said- "I take full responsibility for the position we are in. And looking at the position, I have decided to step down as captain. Iyer will take over. I still feel we have the team to turn things around this IPL."    He further added- "Absolutely my decision. I was the one who initiated the meeting. I thought that I haven't contributed enough. I had to take the responsibility being the leader of the ship. So I feel that it was the right time."    He said- "we're very much in this comp

Testing Tours To Test Team India

Image
A fter wonderful 2017, where Indian team enjoyed fair bit of success in all three formats, they are now open to some formidable opponents in 2018. They have some challenging Foreign Tour Programs (FTPs) this year which include South Africa and England.     The tour starts with Proteas state, with the first encounter to kick-start from Jan. 5 in Cape Town. The three Test match series would be followed by 6-match ODI series and 3-match T-20 International series. After that they will be visiting England for 3-match T-20 and ODI series each which will be followed by 5-match Test series.     In 2017, India's win percentage in all three formats stroke all-time high at 69.7. No doubt, India achieved triumph on the bases of quality performance in all three departments and solid bench-strength. But we can't ignore the factor that except Sri Lanka tour and ICC Champions Trophy Indian team played rest of the matches at domestic soil.     This is also going to be the first major

They Were More Intense And More Passionate: Kohli

Image
T he Pakistani team vanquished the arch-rivals India by a mammoth 180 run difference to clinch the ICC Champions Trophy title for the first time. They were just relentless in their run to the trophy after their first match. With that they are in the elite of teams who have won all three major ICC events.     The Indian skipper Virat Kohli was full of praise for the Pakistani side in the post match presentations. He said- "credit to Pakistan, they outplayed us. The way they turned things around speaks volumes of talent they have in their side. They can upset anyone on their day".     The skipper speaks about the aggression the Pakistani bowlers showed- "They were more intense and more passionate, even with the ball they were more aggressive".     Despite the anticlimatic loss Kohli praised his team and said contesting the final is also an achievement- "disappointing to lose but I am very proud of the boys". He said his decision to bowl after

From Underdogs to Chieftain- The Pakistan Story

Image
T hey were underrated by cricket pundits and were priced lower by the betters. They came with quite unknown side and had nothing to lose. They could hardly qualified for the tournament and were ranked eighth in ICC ODI rankings. They were even demolished in their very first encounter.    But this has been a story of past; they are at zenith now.    The Pakistani side came all guns blazing after their first game and stopped only after getting what every team came for. They beat the defending champions and favourites Indian side to clinch their first ICC Champions Trophy title. After losing the first game they came strong against the power-packed Proteas and stunned them. After that they vanquished Lankans with much ease to enter semis.    Then came the strongest contestant- the hosts. It was just miracle as the green-shirts totally outplayed them in all departments. It was just unpredictable as the in-form Englishmen were said to be the strongest side in the tournament.

India, Pakistan and Multidimensional Rivalry

Image
N ot all that long ago they were One. Even today One can find no principal uncommon between the now-so-called arch-rivals . Be it food and language, religion and culture or sport and administration they are One in more than one way.    These two neighbours have always been good in several sports but they meet on ground occasionally- during international events of ICC or FIH ( International Hockey Federation ) . Perhaps they like to meet in International Organisations like UN and ICJ ( International Court of Justice ) more.    Regardless of the domain they get involve, inevitably it is a contest for them. The reason behind is the involvement of collective emotions of their townspeople as they react to every pernickety.    They are called arch-rivals as their rivalry exists in several disciplines be it sports, trade, terrorism, boundaries including sea or even the internal affairs of either nation. They always be in news, trying to evince one another the crook in the court

Shami, Umesh Yadav, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Dinesh Karthik, Kuldeep

Pakistan: An Unpredictable Side

Image
T he Pakistani cricket team is ranked sixth in Tests, eighth in ODIs and second in T20Is by the International Cricket Council. They are featuring with a strange side in the ongoing Champions Trophy, especially the lower-order. They were underrated by the cricket experts and were rated lower by the betters.      Many a time their cricket gets overshadowed by unparalleled political reasons. The green-shirts often concealed by the terrorism and sometimes the acquisitiveness leading to unethical practices in the form of match-fixing.     They are again in news but this time for some good cause. The Sarfaraz-led young Pakistani side is showcasing some good cricket in the ongoing Champions Trophy. They overplayed the favourites Proteas by good bowling show and then vanquished The Lions by their all-round show to enter  the semis.     Pakistan have always been a strong side in terms of bowling but now the batsman are doing equally well. The team containing Azahar Ali, young Fakhar

Champions Trophy without Champions

Image
T wo ICC Cricket World Cup titles, Two ICC World Twenty20 titles, One ICC Champions Trophy title - What more needs a team to be called as Champions? From mid 1970s to the early 1990s cricket without West Indies was just a loaf of bread without butter. Still the names Sir Garfield Sobers, Gordon Greenidge, Brian Lara, Clive Lloyd, Malcolm Marshall, Sir Andy Robert, Sir Curtly Ambrose, Michael Holding, Courtney Walsh and Sir Viv Richards act as synonyms to cricket.    But gone are those days, now bread alone is equally delicious as with butter.    They recently won ICC World Twenty20 (2016) but are just above Afganistan in ICC ODI rankings at 9th. They still have the players-to-beat in the form of Gayle, Bravo, Narine, Pollard, Samueles, Badri or Holder but not a team. They are not able to make a team, sometimes it is pay-dispute or other relates to players' discipline and behaviour or even the bureucracy and racialism in some cases.    Among the 8 tea

IPL X - Players to Watch Out For

Image
T he ten-year-old IPL is already on the ground with some blistering performances by both local and overseas players. Here we are providing with the list of   overseas players who could conquer this summer... Ben Stokes The English allrounder has already grasped the news by getting highest bid in the auctions. He is a perfect blend of all three depatments. RPS, who have already lost Mitchell Marsh and KP, taking his name out; would be hoping for returns on their mammoth 14 crore investment. Rashid Khan Cricket experts say he is a special talent, undoubtebly on the grounds of his performance over the formats. Many teams went for him in the auctions but before getting him SRH had to incur four crores. He is most likely to get chance of proving his worth for the spinner-less SRH. Tymal Mills In the recently concluded India-England limited overs series he won every heart and skipper Virat himself was full of praise for him. Now it is up to him to grab the opportunity

IPL X - Match Schedule

6 Months, 13 Encounters and 4 Opponents

Image
I t started with New Zealand followed by England and Bangladesh and ended with Australia. India dominated in all departments and overplayed all the opponents.             Bangladesh earned more experience, Aussies put on a good fight but the other two surrendered completely when it came to Indian subcontinent.      India played three test match series with New Zealand and swept them cleanly, thanks to good shows by skipper Virat and spin duo of Ashwin and Jadeja who were the top performers. Then it came to  much awaited encounter with England. India beat England 4-0 in a five match test series, again skipper played some good knocks and bowlers doing the rest. Hosts beat their next guest Bangladesh with no difficulty. And then visited Kangaroos who surprised the hosts by winning the opening encounter but India recovered well and ended the series with figures of 2-1. The surprising thing was that skipper Virat Kohli completely failed with the scores of 0, 13, 12, 15 a

Dinesh Karthik: Knocking At The Door Again

Image
With some good & match-winning knocks on a row in domestic cricket i.e. Vijay Hazare Trophy which ultimately took his team to the winning side, Dinesh Karthik once again ready to upset the current spot-holders of wicketkeeper-batsman in the national side.            About 10 years back Karthik was a regular in the national team in all three formats but a sudden rise of Dhoni and lack in performance costed him the spot.    The position for the wicket-keeper was not vacant for the next decade but Karthik managed to return in the team as a middle-order batsman many times during these years but couldn't hold on for a long.         Now Karthik is ready once again but no position of team seems vacant at this time. If we look at the team now we have Parthiv and Naman Ojha already reserved in tests for Saha and in limited overs until MS calls it off there is no position and not to forget the young boys Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson who will be the first choices.

The Rise and Rise of Bangladesh Cricket

Image
After getting the status of a test-playing-nation in 2000, Bangladesh have improved themselves in all the formats and in all disciplines. They have produced the quality players during these years.          Bangladesh took 18 tests to beat Sri Lanka and complete their 4th away win but more interestingly they won their 100th test. This is important as every team tries to make these events memorable and opposition also tries to debar them from achieving that.              Bangladesh won their first test match in 2005 when they beat Zimbabwe since then they won eight more tests but among these they have won 2 from West Indies and one each from England and Sri Lanka recently. They have the quality players in the form of ICCs top ranked all-rounder Shakib al Hasan and wicket-keeper batsman Mushfiqur Rahim, They have the attacking openers in the form of Tamim and Soumya Sarkar and a bunch of quality bowlers like Mustfizur, Taskin, Rubel H

IPL X: English Wine with Afgan Jalebi

Image
W ith the  inclusion of Stokes, Mills and Roy the happy-memories of english players playing in IPL revisited. After successful inaugural season of IPL where we saw the likes of KP and Flintoff showing their talent, IPL is now ready to provide the platform to new-age-english-players. Not only these players but whole of the cricket loving mass is expecting a good show by them, RPS, RCB and GL being the top well wishers who have invested big-pockets for them.        If we look at the other corner then the respect to cricket is also paid by the inclusion of the talented Afgan players. Both Nabi, and Rashid have been consistent performers in all fomats. This can be seen as talent is always paid, no matter what is the brand or origin of the cricketer is.       Another good point is the emergence of Uncapped Indian players who got their first IPL contract. Be it Natarajan, Rahul Chahar or Aniket Choudhary and Saurabh Kumar they have been paid for their perfo
